Dell Vostro 1400, 1500, 1000 and 1700 Are Available in Dell’s Official Website

Dell Vostro series are new business laptops that offer wide range of budget laptops to expansive ones with AMD-based or Intel-based to support exclusively small businesses with 1-25 employees, simple or no networks and limited or no in-house IT support.

The fist good advantage of these laptops is Vostro systems come without annoying trialware pre-installed. You just get the software you want. This is really best blessing. I have seen many complaints about these trialware tools from the users of different laptop brands in different websites.

Dell Vostro 1400 with 14.1″ display, Vostro1500 with 15.4″ display, andVostro1700 with 17″ display are based on Intel Santa Rosa platform with all the features of this platform include:

- The choice of Intel PM965 chipset and discrete graphics card of dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT or GeForce 8400M GS to support Direct X10
- The choice of Intel GM965 chipset with integrated Intel GMA X3100 graphics for budget level
- Internal Wi-Fi 802.11g, a/g, or the option of Wireless-N (802.11 a/g/n)
- Intel Core 2 Duo Processors with 800MHz FSB

All Dell Vostro systems are very customizable in different parts include processor, hard drive, optical drive the resolution and technology (the different kinds of widescreen) of display, graphic cards and wireless network.

Dell Vostro 1400: it is very customizable. The laptop’s processor can come from the budget level of Intel Celeron M M540 (1.86GHz, 1M L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) up to Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB).

The memory can be up to 4 GB dual-channel 667MHz DDR2 and the hard drive can provide up to 160GB12 7200 RPM SATA hard drive. The Optical drive can be one of the 8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability or 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive.

The display provides Up to 14.1″ Widescreen WXGA+ (1440×900) with TrueLife and the discrete graphics is Up to NVIDIAGeForceGo 8400M GS with 128MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory.

Additionally, this laptop comes with optional 2.0 megapixel camera, media direct buttons, and security cable slot and optional mobile broadband and Bluetooth technology.

Dell Vostro 1500: is like Vostro1400 but with some differences. The differences come in 5 parts include:

- OS: Vostro 1400 can have one of the Windows Vista Ultimate/ Vista Business or Vista Home Basic. But Vostro 1500 comes with one of the OS above plus one of the Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition.

- Display: Vostro 1500 provides Up to 15.4″ Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680×1050) display with TrueLife

- Graphics: Vostro 1500 offers higher graphic card: Up to NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory. So, it can be more professional.

- Weight: Vostro 1400 is lighter and weighs 2.45 kg (5.39 lbs) while Vostro 1500 weighs 2.87 kg (6.33 lbs). Naturally, their dimensions are different too.

- Storage: Vostro 1400 can arrange storage up to 160GB12 7200 RPM SATA hard drive while Vostro 1500 arranges up to 160GB 5400 RPM SATA hard drive.

Both models, Vostro 1400 and 1500 come with the same ports and slots include:

4USB 2.0 ports; 1 IEEE 1394 FireWire port, VGA video output & S-Video; Stereo in, headphone/speaker out & dual digital mics; Integrated 10/100 LAN (RJ-45) & 56K11 Modem (RJ-11) ports; 8-in-1 Card Reader; Express Card slot

Well the website doesn’t mention any PC card or Express card slot but I hope these two laptops have them. The4 basic price if these two models start at $549.

Dell Vostro 1700: This laptop is 17″ display for business use but it can be a good gaming and multimedia laptop too. This laptop can have higher performance as it comes Up to Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB). With Up to 17″ UltraSharp Widescreen WUXGA (1920×1200) display with TrueLife you can get the higher graphics card of Up to NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory.

The storage is enough for saving movies and games specially, the hard drive is speedy and good for playing games. It provides Up to 320GB12 (Dual Drives: 160GB12 7200 RPM SATA hard drive x2).
It arranges one more USB ports but other features of I/O are like the pervious two models I mentioned above. It has got the same amount of Memory, optical drive and Network connections, as well. This laptop only runs on Vista Business or Vista Home Basic.

Additionally it comes with optional 2.0 megapixel camera, media direct control buttons, and numeric keypad, and security cable slot and optional mobile broadband and Bluetooth technology.

Among the desktop-replacement laptops, Vostro 1700 is not heavy. It weighs only 3.45 kg (7.62 lbs). Of course, it is not a suitable laptop for regular traveling but it is easy to move from one room to another.

The basic configuration is pricing at $799. This is really a good offer because with this $799 provides: Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
17.0 inch Wide Screen XGA+ LCD Display
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM

24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

Dell Vostro 1000: Totally, it is a cheap and budget laptop for business use that the basic price starts at $449 and its highest price with the highest component that it can have is $649.

I should add that it has got sealed full-sized keyboard and its display comes with anti-glare coating although it is a cheap laptop.

Vostro 1000 is based on AMD with 15.4″ WXGA (1280×800) display. It comes with Up to AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TL-60 (2.0GHz, 1MB Cache), Up to 2GB dual-channel8 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Up to 120GB12 5400 RPM SATA hard drive, up to 8X DVD+/-RW3 with double-layer4 DVD+R write capability, Cyberlink Power DVD and Integrated ATI RadeonXpress 1150 HyperMemory graphics card.

It has got the same network connection of last three models and ports and slots, but it caters only 3-in-1 Card Reader. Also, it doesn’t have dual digital mics like last three models.

It is slightly lighter than Vostro 1500 and weighs 2.84 kg (6.26 lbs). Even it is slightly smaller than thinner than Vostro 1500.
Vostro 1000 runs on variety of Vista Business; Vista Home Basic; Windows XP Professional; Windows XP Home Edition

The basic configuration with the price of $449 incorporates:

Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+

These four Vostro laptop series target business users but unfortunately none of them has enough security features like fingerprint reader or TPM module. But other features that they provide are really excellent.

Gateway M and T- Series: Stylish Portable Multimedia Notebooks

Gateway has announced new M-Series and T-series laptops for multimedia use. I am happy that laptop makers have started to use more colorful laptops especially for multimedia and entertainment use. We always know Sony laptops as stylish ones with different colors. Recently, Dell launched its 5 or 6 new laptop series with 8 color options. Gateway has started the same style and these two M-Series and T-series laptops come in three different colors of Crimson Red, Pacific Blue or Slate Grey colors.

The highlight features of M-Series and T-series laptops are:

- Using Centrino Mobile Technology with Intel Core 2 Due processors to deliver high performance
- Optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics
- The option having of HD DVD or Blu-ray optical drive. This is really so good because many laptop makers offer only one of these two high definition optical drive astheir options not both of them like these two series.
- Good wireless connection: offering wireless 802.11a/b/g and next-generation 802.11 Draft-N standards and Bluetooth technology
- HDMI output for watching movies in high quality display
- Fingerprint reader to enhance security
- A built-in webcam to do video conferencing

The first two models of the Gateway M-Series and T-Series laptops called “M-6816” and “T-6815” will come to market from July 22 and consumers can buy them through some of national retailers. The customizable Gateway M-150X and T-140X, the new notebooks will be priced starting at $999.99.

I am quoting some lines from the press release for more details of these two lines up:

Customers will be able to stay connected to the Internet and email with the Gateway M-Series and T-Series notebooks’ advanced connectivity options. An integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam enables video conferencing and video emails. Wireless access via hotspots is possible with multiple wireless options including 802.11a/b/g or next-generation 802.11 Draft-N. The new notebooks come with multiple battery options for long battery life and mobility, letting customers use their notebooks to their potential. They each come standard with a six-cell battery. An extended 9-cell battery is also available.

Design-Optimized for Usability with Eye-Catching Style

The all-new industrial design of the Gateway M-Series and T-Series notebooks make them stand out in a crowd.
